More People

More People

Due to the open access nature of OBI courts it is extremely difficult to quantify accurate usage levels of OBI Goals. The figures below are extrapolated from questionnaires circulated to Site and LA Co-ordinators during the scheme.

'More People' are playing basketball. It is estimated that 16.5 million separate visits are made to OBI Sites to play basketball per year. (Excluding usage at school Sites during school hours).

On average over 317,000 separate visits are made per week to OBI Sites FREE OF CHARGE. · It is estimated that over 7,000 different partner organisations have been involved in some way in progressing OBI Goal installations. · It is estimated that 75% of these Site Co-ordinators are new to the sport of basketball.

9,988 Individuals have requested details on the Initiative, with 2,336 different Site Co-ordinators progressing to complete Goal installations, a 23% success rate.

Value for Money

The investment of £10 million by the Sport England Lottery Fund to install 9,150 Goals provides basketball opportunities at 12 pence per visit (based on 5 years of operation). Great 'Value for Money'.

It is estimated that a further £10 million has been invested to date by community partners further enhancing the Value for Money equation.

£1 for £1 matching funding has been committed by community partners. · Over £3 million of partnership funding has been directly invested in installing OBI sleeves and supplementary payments for long arm Goals.

The scheme has been the catalyst for the building of an estimated 750 new half outdoor courts (9m x 9m) and 275 new full basketball outdoor courts to date (min 20m x 10m), 24% of all the OBI Sites. An estimated additional £7 million has been invested by community partners in providing new surface areas, enhancing existing surfaces, erecting perimeter fencing, and providing line markings at OBI Sites.
