in September 1996, the
English Basketball Association created the
Outdoor Basketball Initiative (OBI)
with the aim of providing
Basketball For All. The then English Sports Council
Lottery Sports Fund, Grant aid of £10 million has enabled
9,150 robust outdoor basketball Goals to be installed in 352
local authorities throughout England.
Access to the sport of basketball is now available

Your Street thanks to the OBI, Sport England and
our partners. You can use this web site to locate
Your Nearest Goal.
This web site also documents the achievements and statistics
associated with the scheme, in addition to acknowledging the many
people and organisations who have played a part in this real team
effort. |

| Funding
from leading sportswear giant adidas, in return for
its profile on all backboards, is assisting on-going
basketball development activities across England including
coaching sessions, coach education, fun days and competitions
. Although no further Goals will be installed directly
through the Initiative, this is by no means the end.........
outdoor basketball is here to stay. Such is the impact
of the scheme that outdoor basketball Goals are now
accepted as standard provision in parks, open spaces
and schools, across the country.
